Here you will find an impartial zoom lenses review of the range 70-200mm/2.8 or 80-200mm/2.8. My review is different from other lens reviews in that, here I attempt to do a cross comparison of all lenses of this range from all manufacturers such as Nikon, Tamron, Tokina, Sigma. There are many versions of this lens. Any of these lenses weigh more than 3 lbs, so why would one want to carry such a lens?
Pro: •This type of lens is usually of very high quality, designed and made for professional so the optical quality and mechanical quality are high. •The fast F:2.8 stop gives very pleasing bokeh (out of focus part of the image). This large lens opening also gather more light to give you higher shutter speed when you need to capture action. For example, a basketball game usually needs shutter speed of 1/250th or preferably 1/500th to freeze the action. This is made possible by using a F:2.8 lens with ISO 1600 on the camera.
Con: •The 70-200mm/2.8 or 80-200mm/2.8 weighs more than 3lbs. It is heavy for casual use. •It is rather expensive. The least expensive new one now is the Sigma at $899.95, while the AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED is up to $2000, and hard to get.
